Leimert Park: Media Center

This proposal for the Leimert Park Media Lab needed to reconcile the differing needs of our clients in terms of program, form, materiality, history, and culture. As the building is designed through this strategy, these spaces will be ideally suited for collaboration between people from different fields.

Physically, the building is meant to represent a compromise between peers and forgiveness between family and friends. To further this ideal, art depicting vital African American figures will be displayed throughout the project. This level of detail enhances the building’s ability to speak to how the black community has reconciled their scars, given greater purpose to them, and make something beautiful out of the ashes. This ties back to the roots of Crenshaw’s founding through the settlement of its different cultures. It also echos the national narrative as different races and cultures in America are trying to reconcile with each other.
